When long time Water Commissioner Bill Wieck’s term ended in 2017, he left a legacy of public safety, fiscal control, water supply protection…and 26 years of meeting the needs of an expanding population. A proud US Army veteran, ex-chief of the Greenlawn Fire Department and Past President of Huntington Fire Chiefs Council, Bill shepherded the cost-effective refurbishment of Greenlawn Water District infrastructure through a dedicated preventive maintenance program that began in 1992.
Commissioners Jim Logan and John McLaughlin recently presented Bill with a plaque with the inscription:
“In recognition of 26 years of exemplary service to the residents of the Greenlawn Water District.”
Commissioner McLaughlin said of the lifetime Greenlawn resident, “Bill’s impact through the years can be seen in the efficient day-to-day management of the District, and his broad environmental background provided wise guidance on issues of conservation and sustainability.” Fellow Commissioner Jim Logan commented, “Bill Wieck leaves an indelible impression on every household in our District, whether that was by ensuring compliance, enabling plentiful supply, or cost containment. Bill’s leadership helped make it all happen.”
Bob Santoriello, Greenlawn Water District Superintendent added “working side by side with a dedicated and knowledgeable professional like Bill Wieck all these years has been a pleasure. His understanding of the daily requirements and the fiscal control needed in running a large district such as ours, have played a major role in achieving our goal of an uninterrupted supply of the purest possible water.”
